Mackey to Comrade Grace, Glorious Leader: Seek Therapy

Poor Comrade Grace!   All she was doing was following Glorious Leader like a good cadre and this is the thanks she gets!!!

https://www.facebook.com/grace.marian/posts/10200876282564833

John Mackey Grace Marion has made several statements that are either incorrect or simply lies to benefit her personal agenda. I will address the most obvious one:

I was on the KBOO Board when Ben Hoyne asked to be re-appointed to the board. Ben *NEVER* stated t
hat he would only accept Board appointment if he could be Board President. He did offer to serve as the Board President if appointed - which would have benefited KBOO as it ended up with a Board President who mis-spent funds without authorization according to the investigation the board conducted.

Grace & Teresa - I am calling you both out as simple liars and manipulators. In particular, Grace, *YOU* have created "a hostile environment for staff members and volunteers". Several times I had to deal with KBOO volunteers who you attempted to harass with your hostilities. Remember the time you attempted to blame a power outage (of the entire block) on Bryan?

Grace & Teresa - please seek therapy.
OMG!  BRYAN DID THAT!!!!   The reach of Fitch's EVIL minions is indeed far!

Comrade Mackey has a reputation for being a good engineer:
http://feedback.pdxradio.com/topic/recent-kboo-engineering-disasters

KBOO is going down the tubes. John Mackey was their engineer, he was good and kept things running well. Ani Haines and her cohorts harassed him to the day they got him out of KBOO.
Things will never improve at KBOO unless there is a total change at KBOO. The old guard needs to leave, many of the old timers need to leave. Everyone on their board of directors need to go.
The KBOO sound quality has become worse daily since John Mackey left. Current engineer Tom "Hollywood" Hood is completely incompetent as an engineer. The recent problems with the KBOO air signal, streaming signal, and virus propagating web page are the simple proof; all started long after Mackey left and have not been fixed.

However some say Mackey himself has a checkered past:

 http://portland.indymedia.org/en/2012/09/417969.shtml

As for John Mackey, he did indeed spend several years as the Chief Engineer for KBOO, as he pointed out in his candidate statement. However, the majority of his time was spent on continual probationary status, after years of abysmal performance reviews failed to produce any improvement in his work habits. He was eventually dismissed (for cause) from his position at the station. Again, these facts can be found in the public record.

During John's tenure as Chief Engineer, complaints about the working order of station equipment routinely went unanswered or were brushed off. Listener complaints about the quality of KBOO's air signal spiked toward the end of John's tenure. In just one recurring example, the air room CD players frequently malfunctioned, causing broadcasts to be interrupted. Calls for replacement CD players from programmers were ignored. It was only after John's dismissal that three brand new CD players he had ordered were discovered in storage; it is still unclear how many weeks or months they had been left in storage, but their presence there had apparently not even been reported by John to other KBOO staff.
Since his dismissal, John's name (and occasionally his pseudonyms) have been recorded on numerous sites, where negative rumors and opinions meant to undermine KBOO have been posted. In June of 2011, John was listed as attending a meeting of KBOO.info, a group of KBOO detractors where the following statement was made: "We agreed it would be useful to sabotage the pledge drive, although it wasn't determined whether we would make it obvious, or 'accidental.'"
This seems to contradict some parts of the pdxradio comments.   Mackey is welcome to stop by and set the record straight.

One part stands out: a reference to  KBOO.info:

" In June of 2011, John was listed as attending a meeting of KBOO.info, a group of KBOO detractors where the following statement was made: "We agreed it would be useful to sabotage the pledge drive, although it wasn't determined whether we would make it obvious, or 'accidental."

The implication is that Mackey was trying to sabotage the station.  However, by that standard Crazed Comrade Papa's association with KBOO.info makes him just as guilty and he's still on the board:

[snip tl;dr doG knows where he's going with this shit]

Mackey's past inconstant activities could be due to being "duped" as Traitor Hardrian describes:

"Not that the staff has acted directly, at least not openly. Certain KBOO members apparently acted as proxies to spread lies, slander and outright propaganda, as well as to engage in tactics of intimidation, threats, and even, as it has been alleged  blackmail. Unfortunately, these tactics activated a larger number of members who, acting in good faith, objected to the possible cut in controversial programming and the corporatization of KBOO -- all spurious charges."
Ah, who cares about doing actual journalism?

Whatever's going on, FITCH = EVIL!!

That's all loyal cadre need to remember!

  1. John didn't get along with the staff that control the station, that's for sure. It's hard to sort out the arguments about competence as an engineer, but part of the problem is that John was expected to maintain the computer networks internal to KBOO as well as do the radio station stuff. KBOO kept insisting on connecting together whatever they could get cheap or free from Free Geek, and calling it a network, then blaming John when it would crash.

In addition, John was a tireless advocate for Native American programming. Ask the people who just retired the NA shows how much heat John got from programming staff for speaking up about programming.

I'm not entirely clear what happened, but his treatment at KBOO sure seems a lot like that done to Arthur Davis and perhaps also Chris Merrick. I'm still very unclear what happened to Chris.

Is this the same Chris Merrick who was at KBOO in the late '90s?

So the CD player story could go either way: stuff he was forced to buy for KBOO but didn't need to/afraid to use or stuff he bought himself for KBOO but they refused to use.

A victim of his honestly and a smear campaign? Notice he didn't walk off with the CD players. He could have.

    3. yes, Mackey could stolen the CD players and no one would ever have known. Actually, those CD players were ordered to replace CD players that became un-repairable. So it is simply a smear campaign against Mackey - which the inner party of KBOO did until they ran Mackey out. He was a good engineer - probably the best I have seen at KBOO in the 20+ years I have been at KBOO.

The To list is omitted from the pdx posting. The recipients in the grc posting are Michael Papadopoulos, Kathy Leonard-Bushman, Glen Owen, Scott Forrester and Yvette Maranowski -- the last four are losers in the this years KBOO Board elections. They were together as a bloc.

Three of these four have been banned from the station for good cause. Along with Michael Papadopoulos. For bad behavior of one kind or another. Don't know anything about the identity of the "anonymous male caller", and nothing about kbooowner@gmail.com.

It's pretty clear that this is a very small band of folks with an axe to grind. And they seem to be trying their best. Their purpose? Revenge? Take over? Fuck shit up? I really can't tell, but they are not friends of KBOO.

Yes, the same Chris Merrick. For the record, does anyone know who the person was who made the claim of harassment against Arthur Davis?

    1. That's a good question. According this this thread no one was ever touched or even verbally intimidated. Putting him far ahead of Comrade Papy.

      http://feedback.pdxradio.com/topic/what-is-kboo-censoring

"One reason I have not been more outspoken is that in the midst of attacks against Arthur, a complaint of sexual harassment was brought against him which I felt presented issues of confidentiality that needed to be respected. I'd hoped to wait to make a public statement announcing reconciliation between Arthur and the person making the complaint. However, while I think a mutually agreed upon resolution is still possible, I find it necessary to set the record straight now that the complaint has been mentioned in open board session, on the Web and person to person.

I still don't feel comfortable characterizing the allegations for the complainant who herself has been unsure how to label her complaint. What I can say is there was no allegation of touching of any kind or any type of sexual or gender-based comments, and that prior to hearing about the complaint, Arthur had no idea that his actions had caused the volunteer to be uncomfortable. So it was a volunteer at the time. Sounds like total bs. Be nice to know who the crazy was.

    2. "So it was a volunteer at the time. Sounds like total bs. Be nice to know who the crazy was."

Saying she's crazy may not be fair. It could just as easily be one of these people the "Inner Party" manipulated into attacking JM. A thing I've at the special membership meeting in May is a buttload of passionate people I believe have their hearts in the right place(plus several I know who don't)spouting complete garbage. But they believe it. They got that garbage from somewhere.

  4. The staff who complained so much about JM are the same one's that advocate returning to the old personnel policies. The staff themselves wrote these to make it impossible to fire anyone -- including JM. Whatever the merits of either party in the dispute between other staff and JM, the instructive piece is that the personnel policies were in large part illegal, not up to standards or so munged up that a staff person other staff were reportedly terrorized by could not be fired, even after year after year after year of being on probation. The staff collective finally did, but admitted they fucked it up. What they refuse to admit is their old personnel policies were fucked up too.

The staff that hates at will employment so much wrote a job description for the development director to be at will. Lynn Fitch was hired on as an at will employee. She still is. The staff's own job descriptions say they are at will employees. When they managed the station themselves, they never changed these at will job descriptions. But its a big surprise to have the Board affirm their at will status? Go figure.

Sounds like a dream job...for a bully. Ironic at a time when corporate workplaces are acknowledging workplace bullying.
